Data Captured About Your Swing Is Critical For Proper Club Fitting

Our Trackman™ high-tech launch monitors capture 20 data points from every golf swing. Seven of those relate directly to your swing and are used by our expert club fitters to understand your unique swing dynamics and how to best fit the club head and shaft to optimize its performance.

  • Club Speed

Club speed is how fast the club head is moving just before impact with the ball. The greater the club speed the greater the ball speed and, in general, the greater the distance the ball will travel. The swing weight of the club head and shaft impact swing speed. Slower swing speeds are likely to need lower weight clubs and shafts and more flexible shafts. The faster swing speeds will need stiffer shafts.
  • Attack Angle

The attack angle defines whether the golf club is on an upward (positive data value), level (zero data value) or downward (negative data value) path at the moment of impact with the ball. The attack angle is most determined by the swing and different golfers, even at the professional level, have significantly different attack angles. It varies depending on the club as well (irons have more downward attack angles than drivers or fairway woods and hybrids). Knowing the attack angle of a golfer's swing enables the club fitter to configure the club to maximize performance based on the attack angle.
  • Club Path

Club path is the direction the club head is traveling at the moment of impact relative to the target line. A positive number indicates the swing path is "inside-out" for a right handed golfer and a negative number indicates the club path is "outside-in" relative to the target line. Knowing a golfer's common club path enables the fitter to adjust club configuration for ideal on-course performance.
  • Vertical Swing Plane

Vertical swing plane is a measure of how vertical the golf swing is. A high value represents a steeper swing plane, a low value is a relatively flat to the ground swing arc. There is no correct value since it is dependent upon a golfer's height and the length of the club. Identifying your vertical swing plane enables the club fitter to properly adjust the club configuration for optimal performance.
  • Horizontal Swing Plane

Horizontal swing plane is the orientation of the golf swing arc in relation to the target line at the bottom of the swing arc. A positive number means to the right and a negative number means to the left for a right handed golfer. Knowing the horizontal swing plane of the swing enables the club fitter to adjust the club configuration to optimize the distance and direction of the ball flight.
  • Dynamic Loft

Dynamic loft is a calculated value that adds the static club loft to the attack angle and makes an adjustment for the bent shaft at point of impact. It provides the club fitter a more accurate assessment of the club's loft than a static loft number does and a more fine-tuned club configuration.
  • Face Angle

The face or club head angle is calculated at impact and measure the club face position relative to the target line. A positive value means the club head is open at impact and a negative value means the club head is closed at impact. To get a draw, the face angle value has to be less than the club path value (club head closed compared to club path). If the face angle is one half times the club path the shot will, as a rule of thumb, be fading/drawing relative to the target line

In a Cool Clubs custom fitting, our expert club fitter studies these collected data points for your swing with your current club. The fitter and our proprietary software use this information to determine new club configurations that produce improved performance. We then evaluate the changes to these data points, and others, when the player swings a proposed new club head/shaft combination. As the proposed club configuration gets more finely tuned to the player's unique swing characteristics, the performance of the club improves, both in the fitting studio and on the course.

Without understanding this detailed swing data, the golf club buyer is at a loss to know which club will work with their swing dynamics to optimize results. A Cool Clubs fitting enables the golfer to make the best investment in golf equipment that is tuned for their unique swing.
